About this image

Known as the Silver Sliver galaxy, NGC891 in Andromeda is an edge-on spiral some 30 million light years away. It is of similar size to our Milky Way.

The central dust lane features perpendicular filaments that extend hundreds of light years from the galactic plane.

Processing this image was carried out in PixInsight.

Regrettably I have been unable to identify the small galaxy peeping out from behind 891 to its lower left, as none of the planetarium software I consulted labelled it. I estimate it to be around mag 17.

As the above Date entry field does not permit a date range to be entered I have used the date of upload. However for those interested, the imaging run ran from July to October 20205.
