Title

Eruptive Variable V594 Cas

About this image

V594 Cas is an interesting eruptive variable star often described as a Herbig Ae–type star, whose brightness changes due to unstable accretion from a surrounding disk of gas and dust. It lies embedded in a rich star-forming region and helps illuminate the nearby reflection nebula IC 1590.

The surrounding nebula glows as dust scatters the star’s light, while darker lanes and knots trace dense material from which new stars are forming. Variability in V594 Cas provides valuable clues into the early stages of stellar evolution.
