Titan transit of Saturn - 8 Dec 2025

About this image

With rain and cloud all day and forecast through the evening, I thought I would have no chance of witnessing my 1st ever Titan transit. Nevertheless, I kept an eye on SAT24 feeds this afternoon and noticed that there might be a window of thining cloud, so headed out to the observatory. The clouds never fully cleared, but I was able to see Saturn and get it on the camera chip, albeit using higher than usual gain, due to the poor transparency. I grabbed a few OSC and IR SERs, of which 3x2 min OSC and 4x3min IR642 proved usable. I stacked 2000 frames from each of the 3 OSC and 3000 frames from each of the 4 IR642 SERs, giving me a total of 18,000 frames in the final stack. The IR was applied as a luminance layer.
