Jupiter & Ganymede (IR) - 30 Dec 2025

About this image

I headed out to image Jupiter a couple of times on 30 Dec 2025 and got rained on both times, the 1st before I even got the telescope pointed at Jupiter. The 2nd time I did manage to capture a few videos with the IR filter, but just as I was swapping to colour captures Jupiter disappeared behind clouds, then everything started to get wet from falling rain/sleet (see picture of my laptop as I hurriedly shut down and closed the observatory roof). Nevertheless, I managed to salvage a reasonable image from the data I did capture in the very brief session. Jupiter is seen with it's largest moon Ganymede approaching from the left and Ganymede's shadow cast onto Jupiter's surface. Some albedo markings are visible on Ganymede.
