About this image
I've recently started to try out planetary imaging with a Celestron 8-inch Edge HD scope and an ASI 678MC camera. I have a lot to learn but I'm impressed by how easy it is to get passable results these days when the seeing is reasonable. This is a stack of 10% of 10000 frames taken at 200fps with some wavelet sharpening. I have Dragesco's book on High Resolution Astrophotography which was published at the end of the photographic era, some 30 years ago. It contains some of the best lunar photographs taken by amateurs up to that point including a picture obtained by Viscardy using a 0.52-m Cass. It is sobering to compare pictures obtained in the 90s with what we can get now using modern technology.
