About this image

This loose open cluster was discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1787. The enveloping emission nebula is only dimly visible in this image from a 60-second exposure using the OU's PIRATE instrument in Tenerife. However, the Herschels couldn't see it at all!

Distance c.8,500 ly.
