About this image

This attractive 13.5 mag. face-on spiral galaxy is a remote object about 200million ly away. It is about 60,000 ly in diameter. It was discovered by Edouard Stephan in January 1877 using a 31" reflector at Marseille Observatory.

This PIRATE image shows the nucleus and bar, and very faint indications of spiral arms.
