About this image

The OU's PIRATE instrument shows this interesting  mag.10.72 spiral galaxy inclined away from us. The image shows a bright irregular nucleus (which contains a supermassive black hole) and faint, widely-dispersed, fragmented spiral arms. It was discovered by William Herschel in May 1785.

Distance c.54million ly.  Diameter c.179,700ly.
