About this image

Taken 19 days after discovery when ~mag 16 (sloan g).  SNID-SAGE gives an excellent match to  type IIb supernovae near maximum light. 

Type IIb are relatively rare, representing only ~2% of classified supernovae in TNS. They are characterised by both Hydrogen and Helium appearing in the spectrum (though not necessarily both at all epochs) and are an example of a stripped core collapse supernova, intermediate between normal type II which show only H and stripped core type lb which show only He
