About this image

This mag. 11.3 spiral galaxy is the Deep Sky Section's March 'Object of Interest'. It was discovered by William Herschel in April 1788.

The image shows the brighter core (with signs of irregularity) but the larger disk is not seen, nor any sign of spiral arms.

Bortle 7/8, with widespread high cloud. No Moon.
