Title

Jupiter - transits of Io and Callisto

About this image

A disappointing result from a new camera. I thought the conditions were about average and I was expecting better. I must be doing something wrong.  Measuring the first and last images and doing a few 'fag packet' sums: Io has moved 2.03 times the distance that Callisto has.   Their average orbital speeds are 17.3km/s and 8.2km/s.  That's a ratio of 2.11. So I am about 4% adrift. Io does have a somewhat elliptical orbit, perhaps it was near apojove and moving a little slower than average.
