About this image

Processed in Pixinsight.

Pixinsight also has a script to create a Hertzsprung-Russell diagram, so a bit of astrophysics.

A linear image was split to separate the clusters, each were then platesolved, colour calibrated and then analysed by the HRD script.

The script uses the Gaia database information to populate the chart. These may then be refined using filters to remove stars in the field of view that are unlikely to be members of the cluster. The filters use proper motion and distance to remove outliers. The resulting charts can be seen on the accompanying image.
