About this image

This is a composite star trails image of the upper part of Orion, captured as it was setting behind some trees on the evening of 3 April 2026. The stars have been deliberately defocused to reveal the colours better. The upper centre yellow star is Betelgeuse. Bellatrix is to the lower right of Betelgeuse and the three belt stars can be seen at the bottom of the frame. The image is made up of 426 separate frames.
