About this image

Initially just showing a featureless spectrum (low in the blue due to extinction by dust in the edge on host galaxy), features typical of a type II Supernova are beginning to appear. The width of the broad H alpha emission line suggests an explosion velocity of ~12000km/s and the spectrum gives a good match to type II P supernovae near maximum light
