Title

The Heron Galaxy NGC 5394

About this image

The Heron Galaxy, Arp 84 is such a cool target, I couldn't resist imaging this once I realised it was accessible from my garden.  It has been on my target list for several months :).  This is one of the targets that really does look like it's nickname!

The larger Spiral galaxy is NGC 5395, and the smaller galaxy is NGC 5394.  The very tiny galaxy, the heron's prey, is called PGC 2101092.  PGC 2101092 is ~640 million light-years away from us, whereas the Heron galaxies are only about ~170 million light years away from us, therefore it looks like the Heron won't be catching its prey anytime soon!
