Two transients in M31

About this image

M31 is reaching a decent altitude in the morning sky. This background-subtracted patrol image shows two of the current transients (possible novae) in that galaxy. One of them (2026-06c) is surprisingly bright given that it was discovered almost a month ago (ATEL 17857). The other one (2026-07a aka AT2026vdo) was discovered yesterday morning (ATEL 17914, ATEL 17920). 2026-06c is coincident with one of M31's globular clusters, G170.
