About this image

This discarded rocket stage is tumbling and out of range of my scope nearly all the time. By stepping through all 700 frames 1 at a time (very tedious!), periodic flashes were seen, lasting just 1 or 2 frames, every 32 or 33 frames. This corresponds to a flash period of about 208 seconds. By folding the frames over an animation of the flash appears! The individual flashes were magnitude 14 or 15
