Attempt to use optimal opportunity to observe Perseids. Perhaps because of the early hour disappointingly few and faint, saw only 4 over in an hour. My camera did record a brighter object - its track suggests it might be a late Alpha Capricornid?

Weird, I was up in the small hours and saw a couple of very short tails in the SW sky too. Also a few bright flashes, which I had assumed were spacecraft flashes.

I wonder if there was another cause - although as you say, may have been Capricornids late to the party?

I'm not sure that quite lines up with the CAP radiant. It could well be a satellite flare. I've noticed in the past couple of years, and especially this year, have seen a dramatic increase in really bright satellite flares in my shots. A real problem when trying to filter out the genuine meteor trails. Nice all sky image by the way.
