About this image
The view from a quiet field in the national park. Totally silent and no wildlife of any type seen apart from some vultures wheeling high overhead and possibly viewing us hopefully.
The eclipse took place low in the sky - just 1.5 degrees above a nearby treed ridgeline which made the Sun look larger. We were struck by the golden colour of the corona which we attributed to dust in the atmosphere because of the dry weather, smoke from the continuing wildfires and, also, the low elevation.
The image attached is a stack of the frames I took.
A very striking and beautiful visual spectacle just 6 degrees elevation. While we had some hills around us it was still possible to see the edges of the shadow either side of the Sun and Venus shining very brightly away to the left.
Very different to any eclipse we have seen before.
The longest 90secs of my life...
