About this image
Yeah I know - outrageous colours. But stretching the colours out has really helped bring out the narrowband elements.
So this is a rough and dirty assembly with 240sec exposures through OIII S and Ha filters mapped to RGB channels. I then used a wideband unfiltered exposure as the Luminance channel. Sadly most of the other subs were destroyed by satellite trails. Ho hum.
In mapping like this you can see the blue ionised Hydrogen traces in front of the main band of gas, which has a high OIII (double ionised oxygen) content red in the image, with a trailing mix of greens and blues representing the sulphur and hydrogen.
This is of course all the products of a supernova which occurred 10-20,000 years ago. Hot ionised gas and dust all forming the Eastern part of the Veil Nebular.
