About this image

This open cluster, Class I3m, was discovered in October 1878 by Edouard Stephan at Marseille Observatory using a 31" Foucault reflector. Despite its classification, it does not stand out readily from the surrounding stars in this PIRATE image, hence the added marker.

Distance c.13,000ly. Age c.800million yrs.
