About this image

Menkalinan (beta Auriga) is an eclipsing spectroscopic binary consisting of two very similar A type stars with a period of ~4 days. On subsequent nights the H alpha spectrum shows either one component or two components as the two stars move either across the line of sight to the observer or towards/away from the observer.
