UU Aur and Y CvN are carbon stars which show the spectrum of the diatomic molecule C2. Shown here is the C2(1<-0) vibrational band with three components due to the three possible isotopic molecules: 12C12C, 12C13C and 13C13C. UU Aur does not show an absorption due to 13C13C because it has less C13 in its atmosphere than does Y CvN.
