About this image

On Sep 04 21:19 Nick James reported an observation of the Roman Space Telescope and its carrier rocket, with magnitudes of 15.2 and 17.5 respectively. Later that night I saw the Telescope at 15.7

On Sep 06 I observed them, both with a magnitude of 17.3. I rather expected the rocket to be fainter than the telescope.

Nick asked if I had seen any signs of variabilty - I hadn't bothered looking as the trail through the stars was not visible

This is a rehash of my Sep 6 observation https://britastro.org/observations/observation.php?id=20260910_153708_f75346275acd9bbe. Here the 250 frames are grouped into lots of 25, then shifted to show all the objects in the individual frames. In the first 6 frames the Telescope is out-of-range, but in the last 4 it now become brighter and brighter, reaching 15.8 before I stopped the sequence. Magnitudes shown without decimal point

What this means when Roman is on station - I have no idea

In my original observation no such variation is seen

Thanks to Nick for prompting me to re-examine my original data
