About this image

This object was discovered by the Catalina Sky Survey on September 14 and was placed on the Possible Comet Confirmation Page (PCCP). I imaged it on the night of the 14th from Chelmsford and it was immediately obvious that it was cometary. In this image it shows a coma and a short tail in PA 60 degrees. The comet is moving fast so it is slightly trailed in this image. Nine days after discovery, it has still not received an official designation from the MPC.

Using the available astrometry from the MPC the comet is short period with a period of around 22 years, q=0.79au, i=78 deg and perihelion on 2026 Oct 25. It is currently moving quite fast so use short exposures to avoid trailing the photocentre.

It is well placed for observation in the evening sky at the moment. You can get an ephemeris from the PCCP.
