About this image

This mag. 13.1 planetary nebula was discovered by Albert Marth in June 1863, using William Lassell's  rather impressive home-built 48" 'Great Reflector' on Malta (he was Lassell's observing assistant).

This PIRATE image shows the irregular outline of the nebula and its mottled appearance.

Distance: c.4,500 ly. Diameter: c.1.65ly.
