Title

Star Occultation in Beehive

About this image

While inspecting the individual frames of the Beehive Cluster I took yesterday, I noticed one of its stars almost disappeared before reappearing in subsequent images.

The Beehive lies close to the ecliptic plane, a busy region of the sky crossed by numerous satellites and space debris, as well as many asteroids. My suspicion is that a fast-moving, faintly reflective satellite or piece of space debris passed directly through the field of view, creating this occultation.
