I am the director of the Brecon Beacons Observatory in the International Dark Sky Reserve at the Brecon Beacons National Park. I have been an astronomer for over 40 years and have written many academic papers. I have also written six books on features of observing (Alien Worlds;Planetary Nebulae; Choosing and Using Astronomical Filters; Observing Nebulae, Dark Land, Dark Skies and Variable Stars - how to observe them) in addition to many articles on observing the night sky for the journals Popular Astronomy, The Deep Sky Observer and Astronomy Now.
I am a dark sky ambassador for the National Park and a member of the steering committees of Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia National Park dark sky reserves. I am a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am also a STEM ambassador for STEMnet and a science presenter and astronomer at Dark Sky Wales.
