I am the director of the Brecon Beacons Observatory in the International Dark Sky Reserve at the Brecon Beacons National Park. I have been an astronomer for over 40 years and have written many academic papers. I have also written six books on features of observing (Alien Worlds; Planetary Nebulae; Choosing and Using Astronomical Filters; Observing Nebulae, Dark Land, Dark Skies and Variable Stars and how to Observe them) in addition to many articles on observing the night sky for the journals Popular Astronomy, The Deep Sky Observer and Astronomy Now.
I am a dark sky ambassador for the National Park and a member of the steering committees of Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia National Park dark sky reserves. I am a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am also a STEM ambassador for STEMnet and a science presenter and astronomer at Dark Sky Wales.
