New access to the BAA Archives

Announcing our new user friendly access to the BAA Archives for all BAA members.  The Archives are now hosted directly on the BAA website – take a look at the menu bar.

This is a member benefit so make sure you are logged in in order to access all the wonderful items available.  This includes BAA Council Meeting Minutes, BAA Publications, and Observers Notebooks. In addition we are pleased to host the Observing Notebooks of Sir Patrick Moore, which have been kindly supplied by the Trustees of the Sir Patrick Moore Heritage Trust.

Scanned material has been through handwriting recognition software so we can show text representations of the pages, which are often difficult to read.

We have much more material scanned and to scan, and further collections will be added in the future.

This is an initial release of the software presenting the material, and feedback and bug reports are welcome. Please use the Contact the Web Team form.

Immense thanks to our Archivist – Richard McKim and John Chuter, to our Tech people – Nick James, Dave Ansell, Callum Potter and John Berman, and to all those who have been busily scanning away over the years – Sheridan Williams and Martin Mobberley to name but a few, to make this possible.

This is what is called a ‘beta’ version and there will be errors and omissions but we hope you will give us feedback with all the patience and care that the teams have put into making this available.

We hope you find the archive enjoyable and useful
