A commercial 55mm lens in place of the ‘standard’ 30mm diameter doublet. (Upper and lower covers removed for clarity).
Much better end-to-end focusing across the visible range. This looks to be a marked improvement.
Look how much space it frees up inside the body of the spectrograph and underneath the body for additional automation fixtures. The new SAS developed calibration ‘injector’ & lamp controls, focusers, grating motor, etc can now be added.
