Neptune 2025 Apparition Notes

Return to the Saturn, Uranus and Neptune Section home page
The following observers have contributed observations for this apparition: Martin Lewis on 11 October; Gordon MacLeod on November 17; Gordon MacLeod on November 17; Luigi Morrone on September 19, October 10 and December 10; Rishabh Sagar on September 4; Randy Tatum on July 23, 29, August 10, 16 23 and September 22 and James Weightman on June 19.
Neptune has been close to the position of Saturn during this apparition and this is well shown in an image taken by James on June 19 with a gibbous Moon nearby (see the gallery section). Rishabh was able to see the planet under the very light polluted skies of New Delhi with a 130mm Newtonian. Gordon was able to image the planet with a Seestar S50.
The disk has been recorded in images taken by Martin, Luigi and Randy. They have also recorded Triton. The disk images taken by Luigi and Randy only recorded some vague lighter patches particularly close to the southern limb. No distinctive spots were recorded.
Randy Tatum was able to make some early observations of the planet, i.e. on July 23 and 29, August 10, 16 and 23.
Triton was detected plus a lighter brighter region north of the southern limb.

2025 July 29. 07:59 UT. Randy Tatum. 300mm SCT. IR>685nm filter. Shows lighter area near the southern Limb plus Triton.

2025 September 22. 01:30 UT. Randy Tatum. 300mm SCT. IR>685 nm filter. Shows lighter area near the south limb plus Triton.

2024 October 11. 17:02UT. Martin Lewis. 444mm Newtonian. IR>642nm filter. Shows Triton.

2025 December 10. Luigi Morrone. C14. IR>510 nm. Shows Triton.
