After barely avoiding hypothermia while attempting to image comet Lemmon on Friday evening I noticed that many of the time-exposed frames contained a near-vertical streak – sometimes two – close to the position of the comet (which was at azimuth 283 degrees that evening). These were clearly satellite trails, but the question is – which satellites?

I know the problem of such trails has been raised in the Forum before, and they have been likened to the Tholian Web (Star Trek!) by the SpaceWeather website, but it would be good to know which earthly agency produced these particular intruders.

Starlink. There is an article on the front page of Spaceweather about it: https://spaceweather.com/

Thanks Jeremy. I had assumed they probably were Starlink but as I tend to check SpaceWeather in the evening I hadn’t yet seen the article you mention. Maybe we should now be referring to Elon Musk as Commander Loskene? (That’s one for you Star Trek fans!)
