Society for the History of Astronomy Spring Conference – jointly with the SAF
Saturday 24th Apr 2027
The Society for the History of Astronomy is holding its 2027 Spring Conference at the Institute of Astronomy, Cambridge, on Saturday 24th April 2027. This will be a joint conference with the historical section of the Societe Astronomique Francais, and there will also be events on Friday 23rd April and Sunday 25th April, plus a conference dinner.
This conference is part of the “Mars is for All 2027” celebration commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Mars apparition of 1877, at which Asaph Hall discovered the Martian moons Phobos and Deimos, and Giovanni Schiaparelli drew his famous map of Mars featuring “canali” (“channels”, notoriously mistranslated as “canals”). Our keynote speaker will be BAA Mars Section Director Richard McKim.
Venue
The Institue of Astronomy, Madingley Road, Cambridge, CB3 0HA
