In 1916, the English amateur astronomer and BAA member James Henry Worthington published a beautifully produced book, Sketches in Poetry Prose Paint & Pencil, in a limited edition of 300 copies. The Illustrations, both in colour and monochrome, were created by London-born Robert Peter Baker. This article evaluates a copy of the book to assess how far it reflects Worthington’s enthusiastic support for Percival Lowell’s theory of Martian canals.
