About this image

This bright emission nebula is on the Orion-Gemini border, perhaps overlooked in favour of the Great Nebula in Orion and Messier 35 in Gemini, both very popular targets. NGC 2174 was originally thought to be a cluster but if it exists it is poor. NGC 2175 is the nebula and is really quite prominent, some observers stating its visibility in binoculars.

Now nicknamed the "Monkey Head" nebula, unlike many fanciful Deep Sky labels this one does seem to be a reasonable fit. At least I can make out the features, and I have not been drinking!!
