About this image

Quadrantid meteors are seen from late December until mid-January. They usually exhibit low rates except for a period of about a day or so centred on solar longitude 283 degrees, around Jan 3/4, when they can produce a ZHR (Zenithal Hourly Rate) up to ~100.

The short-duration peak can favour observers in other regions of the world, e.g. Asia or North America, and when combined with our unpredictable weather observing the Quadrantids at maximum can be a hit or miss event.

My video cameras recorded ~260 Quadrantids during their recent display and the attached composite image shows a mag 0 Quadrantid flying through Perseus, one of my favourite constellations. (The picture has been rotated through 180 degrees).

The video was recorded using UFO Capture software and processed in its UFO Analyser module.
