About this image

This image was constructed using a Canon EOS 450D running Backyard EOS software. A total of 5000 Frames were captured and then processed, aligned and stacked in Registax. It’s clear from the appearance of this image that it has been over processed. This is a deliberate effort. I have observed these craters for many years but have always been unaware of Ptolemaeus B, which shows up well in this image as pale grey crater in the top right of Ptolemaeus. Sunrise is progressing over Alphonsus and Arzachel and their floors are in deep shadow, although some illumination is present on the craters central peaks. Also nicely presented is Halley Rille, right of image. This is a cropped image of a bigger image and what this cropping shows is also the complexity of the area which is littered with numerous crates.
