This is the picture for the cover of my new book Dark Land, Dark Skies. It shows the silhouette of Carreg Cennan castle in the Brecon Beacons National Park with the constellation of Orion over it last winter. Although most astronomers know about the Greek and Roman myths of the sky, few of us know much about Welsh folk tales that may have their origins in the night sky. This book covers practical astronomy and the objects that can be seen in binoculars or telescopes in each constellation visible from the UK and gives an interesting perspective on alternative myths that may have been used by our ancestors.
