Title

A Trio of Supernovae in one night

About this image

Three supernovae imaged 13/14 June in bright skies and some thin cloud around. I should have gone for 3938 first but ended up with it low in the west in bands of thin cloud, The guiding failed so continued with tracking only and was lucky to have 7 useable 2 min subs out of the 10. Miraculously, Pixinsight has removed the bands of cloud clearly showing on some of these frames. 6946 and 5145 were 10 x 2 minutes. All 3 have been quite heavily cropped. NGC 5145 was reported by Guy Hurst in The Astronomer Circulars as a possible supernova well away from the galaxy core. Apparently, the spiral arms are seen much further out on images with large professional telescopes. The supernova in NGC 6946, the Fireworks galaxy, was discovered on 13 May but still quite bright a month later.
