AF Cygni is a semi-regular variable whose main period is approx 3 months. Being a semi-regular variable, the period is more apparent in the light curve at some time (such as in 2016) and less so at others (such as in the first half of 2017),

The irregularities in the light curve relate to the effect of additional periods
