Venus this afternoon

About this image

My first observation of Venus in the new Eastern elongation.  The planet is still very close to the sun (so only experienced observers should attempt to locate it when the sun is above the horizon!) as a result the phase is large (about 98%) and the apparent disk size is small at about 10''.

Seeing conditions were rather poor, still some vague cloud markings were observed.  The is probably the largest phase I've every observed on Venus!
