Lovely image, Geof!
Jeremy
Best I've seen from the UK this apparition. Good job,
Martin
Thanks Jeremy, much appreciated.
Geof
Thanks Martin,
I was shocked and delighted when I saw that on screen right from when I started focussing using my IR filter at the start of the session. The whole session was good, but for about 30-45 minutes just prior to transit the seeing became stunningly good, better than anything I've experienced previously including back a few years when Jupiter was up at ~60 degrees altitude. It just shows that its all (well mostly) down to seeing and that when seeing is great it can cut through even low altitude murk...
After taking the images I swapped the camera for some eyepiece visual views pushing up to ~x700 though was best at ~x300. I was blown away by the detail and range of colours; there was zero scintilation with the 4 moons all clearly defined, totally stable discs with their own diffraction rings, which was a first for me and I wonder whether I'll ever see that again.....
