About this image

This image was made in very poor seeing conditions. Out of nearly 100,000 video frames, selection in software and by eye resulted in only 300 frames of acceptable quality, i.e. 0.3% ! In consequence there was insufficient data to generate independent images to allow for verification of any features, but an image from the 6th May is included for comparison and does show some of the same markings. Mercury rotated by 20 degrees between the two observations. The bright spots on the limb in the earlier image have now rotated onto the disc, and one near the terminator has moved into shadow. The slight increase in phase is also noticeable.
