About this image

In late May this Aten-type asteroid passed relatively near the Earth at a distance of 7 million miles, when it reached mag 13.0. It is classified as a Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (PHA). Poor weather ruined the chances of doing multi-night astrometry.

On May 31 I recorded a number of 1-minute videos using OccuRec and they were measured with Tangra. Its sky motion at that time was derived to be 0.26"/sec, 0.24"/sec in RA and 0.09"/sec in Dec, so almost all of its motion was in RA. The following astrometric results were submitted to the MPC.

n2018 05 31.92397816 54 39.80 +32 08 34.7 13.0 R Z92

n2018 05 31.93368916 54 24.20 +32 09 48.6 13.2 R Z92

n2018 05 31.94830216 54 00.74 +32 11 39.1 13.2 R Z92
