About this image

This photograph dates from 2003 and shows the main observatory instrumentation between 1980 and 2016 when I switched primarily to Celestron Schmidt Cassegrains 14" and down. (See the entry for my profile.)

With the finding of a suitable site for a new house and observatory, the observatory was constructed when we recovered from the cost of house building.  The instruments were installed at the beginning of 1980. The main ones were a 16" F6 observatory model 'Cave' Newtonian reflector with a 10" F6 Cave as guide scope on top.  (After my 6" in November 1958, a 9.5" had followed in late 1961 and other assorted stuff. I still retain the 9.5" on its wheeled mount in the carport and occasionally use it for objects not accessible from the observatory.)

My main field of observation is the timing of lunar occultations which I still perform visually.  Between 1976 (when I started seriously), and the end of 2017, I had timed 8,801 events.
