About this image

This is my first 'proper' astronomical telescope, built with the help of my Father from a kit of materials supplied by W.Ottway of Ealing, London in 1959. A manufacturer's example of the instrument was tested and approved by Patrick Moore. Sale price: £5 19s 6d. They don't make them like this anymore!

I have often wondered whether any other examples exist - or ever existed. If you own one, or have ever come across one, please do get in touch.

The photograph was taken in 1996. An article about this telescope and its construction can be found in Astronomy Now, Nov. 1997, p.56.

One of these was passed on to me in the 1990s.  I thought it was a novel design and a curiosity. The optics were tarnished. I dont recall what became it.  So yes there is (or was) another example.
