Western Sky with Street Lights On

About this image

A view of the western sky with the local street lights on during the evening markedly raising the light levels. Gemini is visible in the western sky but the general ambient light level is quite high.

Hampshire County Council has recenty instituted a policy of turning off street lights on minor and residential roads between 01.00 and 04.00 civil time.  This is mainly to save energy and costs at a time when the roads are hardly used but it does have the added bonus of markedly improving the darkness of the night sky for that period.
