ISS 21st May 2019

About this image

A sharpened stack of eight frames from roughly the middle of the pass, when the ISS was at an elevation of 65 degrees. The heat-rejection panels are saturated, as usual, but a reasonable amount of other detail is visible. The station was tracked manually using a guide scope with a second live camera view, not recording.

Superbly detailed Chris and you have captured the large dynamic range really well. That is a really wonderful ISS image

Wonderful image of ISS Chris. Is it coincidence that Steve did the same thing or is a Newbury challenge? I mentioned this in my Sky Notes at Christmas and must try it myself sometime.

Thanks, Martin, and I'm glad you like it. I'm trying to get back to how I was imaging the space station about 10 years ago, when my tracking technique seemed to work much better than it does now. All the kit is the same, so maybe it's just me . . .

Glad you like the image, Nick. From time to time I do send Steve images for the @Newburyastro Twitter feed. He knows the ISS is one of my targets, so maybe he does regard it as a challenge! It would be great to see you and others giving it a try as well.

Cheers,

Chris
