About this image

The planet is now fairly close to the Sun at about 20° elongation and is a little over 10 arc seconds in diameter, which combine to make this quite challenging.

I was lucky on this occasion though as the Sun was behind some slow moving cloud which prevented the telescope tube from becoming heated. That of course can have a very detrimental effect on the seeing which is generally poor when observing near the Sun anyway.

Superior conjunction occurs on August 14th.
